Lindenwood Day One :)

The mail man told us we were home... that the freezing 60 degree temperatures- we miss Maui!!!

Maui Day 12

Time to "hang ten". Peter scheduled a surfing lesson for me at on our last day at Goofy Foot. I had the best time!! I think I'm a convert :)

After a hard morning surfing we headed once again to Aloha Mixed Plate and then we headed to the airport side of the island :)

We decided to hang out in Paia and found a cool coffee shop: Anthony's CoffeeOur Yelp. We utilized the free wireless and sipped out Anthuccinos -see our yelp :) - to our hearts content. Can't believe our vacation is over!!!

Maui Day Eleven

Time to pack up and move back to Lahaina. Our last night we moved back to our hostel, but before we went we enjoyed the water slides, water elevator, body surfing and some complementary champaign. After settling in at the hostel it was time for dinner. We ate at Kaluah Kebab

We had dessert at Kimo's on their balcony.

It was so close to the water we were occasionally spritzed with a salty sea spray. Off to bed early with us- gotta be ready for surfing tomorrow.

Maui Day Ten

After a day of pure lounging it was time to get out of town!! We tried the Hoapili Trail ... so nice.

If you made it through all that after we recovered from the trail we partook our evening meal at Maui Thai (our yelp) and ice cream at The Sweet Spot :)

Maui Day Nine

We keep "stumbling" upon hidden charges... we fell like they're trying to nickel and dime (errr $20 or $50) us to death.

1) Lounge chair with any sort of artificial shade - $65 a day - we learned this the hard way :) who would have thunk?? there are no signs!
2) Jumping on the ocean trampoline... okay we confess we were a little guilty on this one.. the sign said to "check-in" under the green umbrella before jumping... didn't look dangerous to us so we went ahead with out instruction only to be informed later when inquiring about canoe rentals that they could sweeten the deal by "throwing-in" a free jump on the trampoline - a little hard not to chuckle.

But despite the monetarily enterprising nature of our hosts we are enjoying immensely the "complementary" amenities.

1) Beautiful gardens, statuary and decor.
2) Watersides, pools and towels galore.
3) turn-down service - it's the little things!

After a day of sunning and snacking we set out for some real food. Dinner: Da Kitchen Dessert: Cafe O'Lei

Maui Day Eight

Last day in the little house. We squeezed the joy out of every minute before we headed down the road to the luxurious Grand Wailea for our big splurge - still a spurge despite our hefty discount. It's a little over the top here. We're having fun sneaking food into our mini bar - we're soo cheap.

We headed to town for dinner at Pita Paradise - take out to the shoreline park. Followed closely by ice cream at Lappert's Aloha Ice Cream. Came home and snuggled up to watch a movie.

Maui Day Seven

Day of relaxation. We didn't go anywhere. Just laid around and read, enjoyed the sunshine and the beach. Cooked ourselves breakfast, lunch and dinner. Pete caught a local game of ultimate and I watched a few episodes of the last season of Little House on the Prairie :)

Maui Day Six

Woke up at 5am - oof! Had some leftover pancakes, and drove up to Lahaina, where we scurried around to find an ATM, grabbed a bagel at FSG&B, and caught a 7:15am ferry to Molokai. Wow, what a rough ride! We got in, and took a shuttle to the airport, where we rented a car for the day. After grabbing a pizza at Molokai Pizza Cafe, we headed west to check out the beach scene in Molokai. The first beach we hit was Kapukahehu beach (aka Dixie Maru), which was crowded for Molokai standards (2-3 couples), so after a quick dip and a short lay-out session (we fried the back side today), we set out jumping across the lava rocks, looking for another more private nearby beach. We did find a nice small sandy cove, but were unable to enjoy the serenity since we hadn't checked the time, and we needed to be back by 3:15pm. We jetted back to the car, and hey it's only around 1:30, so let's go explore some other beaches! We then stumbled across Papohaku Beach, probably the most beautiful and deserted beach I've ever seen.

After another sunbathing session, we headed back to the airport to return our rental car (with a short detour to the post office to send back some coconuts!), took the shuttle back to the port, and barely survived the very tumultuous ferry ride back to Maui.

Maui Day Five

Woke up early again, still on CA time ;) Skipped around the corner to Gian Don's $5.95 breakfast.

Came back home to brown/burn our front sides and play frisbee before making the last minute decision to venture down the road to hana that afternoon. Picked up few hitchhickers along the way (two teenagers in kihei and one old veteran only a few minutes outside hana).

Road to Hana: Beautiful!! Though less ocean and more waterfall views (we preferred the ocean views north of lahiana).

We scurried along at a fast clip as the flood of exiting tourists washed through the many one lane portions of the hana highway. After attaining hana we immediately set out for the 7 "sacred" pools, took a quick hike to the waterfalls there and headed back.

We stopped at a roadside thai stand for dinner. It was filled with locals drinking beer (which the stand did not (could not?) sell). After we sat down to eat we were offered good ol' yellow tail to help send our yummy chicken veggie curry atop brown rice down to its final resting place. It was interesting to hear the locals gab about the normal things - weather, pricing of housing, traffic etc. with a uniquely hawaiian flavor.

As we headed out after our yummy meal the over burdened clouds above finally let loose. We had, fortunately, anticipated this and were already driving top up :) The downpour did not stop pete from tarrying to splash in a roadside waterfall we had spotted on the way in. I ventured out to capture the moment but only succeeded in recording astonishingly large, flash illuminated, globular raindrops...

My efforts were rewarded with complete dew point saturation. After a little incident with a runaway dog, we were on our way home again. Exhausted I dropped into bed while my wonder husband got things together for our early morning the next day.

Maui Day Four

Yay!!! We woke up in our very own house this morning ;).

Although it had seemed to storm all night the sun was peeking through the clouds as we strolled to the local Star Market to pick up some goodies for breakfast. We made Pineapple Coconut and Bananna Macadamia Nut Pancakes, two cups of Cafe au lait, and eggs with hawaiian sausage :) After listening to various sermons online we selected Kihei Baptist Church - a short .6 mile walk from "our little paradise"... We really enjoyed the church, the people were soooo friendly, they gave every visitor a flower and a name tag and after being "tagged" you were greeted by everyone in site. The sermon was part of their recent theology series, today's topic being the virgin birth. We were invited to the after service potluck but my introverted side had reached its limit for meeting new people for the day so instead we headed home via the beach - yup walked all the way home via the beach!!! Time for some more tanning and a dip in the ocean ;) The weather is looking a little overcast so Pete and I moved our base of operations into our living room - though we still feel like we're outside :)

We finished the evening by visiting Matteo's Pizzeria, yummy.

Maui Day Three

Woke up! ;) After another morning at Sunrise Cafe, we headed up the north western coast, spelunking down to the water whenever possible.

At one point we found a calm pool of water in lava rock near a very turbulent bay, fun swim.

We found a roadside stand and bought some fresh pineapple and homemade chocolate chip cookies to munch on.

After running to Longs (again) to pick up towels, a straw hat and sunglasses (yes, I had managed to loose them not even 12 hours into the trip) we headed to the D. T. Fleming Beach Park to soak in a longer duration of rays. Much to our chagrin however the wind had other plans and after 15 minutes of sand storm we sought refuge in the waves. When the energy ran out we started scavenging for local coffee shops and found one with comfy chairs - (Hawaiian Village Coffee). I took a nap whilst Pete performed hard drive recovery on our 250 GB movie drive (my stellar husband had it back in working condition in no time). Before we knew it it was time to head out for the evening's planned activity: The Old Lahaina Luau - Our Yelp - a fun experience!

Maui Day Two

We're in Maui! ;) Started at the day with breakfast at the sunrise cafe, we hit the road to check out our future diggs and scope out the island. Picked up some things we needed at the drug store, checked out dish's frozen food entries for cheap fast meals, picked up a new carry-on luggage at ross, and headed to the H. A. Baldwin Beach Park on the other side of the island. Yay Maui Babe! Pete had a "surprise" appointment for us at 2 o'clock so we chilled till then. Surprise: A helicopter tour of the island!! (courtesy of AirMaui)

We took a nice nap at our hostel before walking to Aloha Mixed Plate for dinner. We got a preview of the next night's luau music from the Old Lahaina Luau next door. After walking back, with a detour to the local cold stone we fell into bed

Maui Day One

Arrived, picked up the rental - sweet little red mustang convertible - we christened her "mustang sally"

Funny, lots of other people are sporting a mustang sally too...

We arrived at our hostel. Fell into bed (only a sheet was provided/needed).

The kayak hanging over the hallway outside our room.
